Are you tired of working that 9-5 job, working so hard to only come home to a house that is identical in looks to thousands of your neighbors. If you are, your like hundreds of thousands of Americans today. What would you do if there was a way to build a home for a fraction of the cost of a conventional house. Would you be interested, well I was. When I was first told about shipping container homes, I was very skeptical. Figured it was one of those crazy ideas that would never be practical until I started to do research. Turns out there are heaps of shipping container homes all over the world. Many have been built by famous architects and many more have been built by the DIY er looking for a way to express themselves though their home.

The basic concept is you take a used shipping container which are very cheap because of the massive surplus. And use it as the building blocks of your home. It's almost like a giant Lego set. You can basically stack them in almost any configuration and because of the structural components of the container. Shapes and designs can be achieved which would be next to impossible with conventional framing.

Other new and innovative home building techniques include rammed earth and straw bale homes. Although I should correct myself. Rammed earth technology has been around for centuries the ancient Romans use to use this method to construct buildings. Many of which still stand today can you say the same for you home in 5000 years.
