Solar Lights are gaining in popularity for outdoor lighting - some reasons for their
increased use are:
* they are energy efficient - no need for expensive electricity
* ease of installing or setting up - no elaborate wiring or drilling through house walls
* their automatic sensors turn on at dusk & off at dawn - no need for tricky timers
* when charged they will give light for up to 10 hours
* endless selection of types, shapes and styles - it's easy to find something that suits your taste
Solar Lights are comprised of a solar panel, an LED light, a rechargeable battery and a
light sensor.
They work by converting energy from the sun into electricity, which is then stored so it
can provide the power needed to light the fixtures at night. NOTE: positioning the solar
panel (photovoltaic cell) where it gets a reasonable amount of sun will provide the best
results.
The LED lamp is designed to last "forever" (or 25 years, whichever comes first). The
rechargeable battery, however, starts to lose its ability to hold a charge and will need to
be replaced.(Somewhere around 1000 hours).
The light sensor triggers the light to come on at dusk and go off at dawn.

been around awhile and remain popular because they are practical.

really do not find those traditional styles appealing, here's some good news. The selection of solar lights has grown tremendously, you can find:
Lanterns - in various types of metal, different shapes and sizes, some with stained glass. They can be placed on a table or hung from a "shepherd's hook" that goes into the ground -adding a decorative touch to the garden, patio, or front yard.
Path Lights - in addition to the traditional black tiered style, they are also available in several choices of metal (aluminum, copper, brass) they even come as stepping stones in amusing shapes such as a leaf or tree stump.
Specialty Lights - Here the assortment goes wild. Animal figurines - Bunnies,
Frogs, Turtles. Flowers that are lights. Globes that change colors and can be placed in a
pool or pond. Oriental pagodas. An American Flag that is a light. House numbers that light.
Solar lights are wonderful- decorative, easy to install and use, in addition to being energy
efficient.
