Also referred to as 'anti Mars' or 'the rival of Mars', Planet Antares has a vivid red hue reminiscent of the Red Planet, Mars. The Antares star and Mars can both be seen from both hemispheres of the Earth at this particular time. Due to the relative closeness of Mars, it will in effect appear to be almost twice as bright as the Antares planet. In factual terms, the distance from Earth to Mars is 191 million km while the Antares lies about 30 million times further away.
Similar to all planets, Mars has no light of its own and reflects the light of the Sun. Planet Antares on the other hand has 9000 times more luminosity, 15 times more mass and is roughly 700 times larger than the Sun. Planet Antares is however less dense than water with the outer layers being so thin that they are barely noticeable.
