While the company has yet to make a strap big enough to fit around a person's chest, that hasn't stopped Citizen watches from being "close to the hearts of people everywhere."

For nearly 100 years, Citizen watches have produced timepieces that seemingly fit and support lifestyles led by people all over the world.

Citizen's original name, the Shokosha Watch Research Institute, was established in 1918. Since then the company has changed with the times, not only just producing fine men's and ladies' watches, but dive watches, Eco-Drive watches and atomic watches as well.

This watch evolution has established Citizen as the world's largest watchmaker, a title the company has held for the last 24 years, according to its U.S. website.

Yet Citizen watches are not only defined by the massive size of the worldwide timekeeping giant, but also by the manufacturer's creativity and innovation.

According to the company, Citizen watches were responsible for the world's slimmest LCD watch and the first voice recognition watch.

Citizen watches also gave the world a look at the first professional dive watch with an electric sensor when the company introduced it.

Citizen watches have also been on the cutting edge in the worldwide shift to alternative energy and "green" technology. The company is perhaps best known for its Eco-Drive collection of Citizen men's watches and Citizen ladies' watches that never require a disposable battery to power the movement inside the watch.

"Fueled by light," as the design line's motto states, creates less refuse and more usage out of the existing rechargeable power cell inside of the timepiece. A solar panel, which is nearly invisible, that is installed inside the watch underneath the dial is where the watch captures the light is exposed to and in turn is powered by.

Citizen Eco-Drive watches can be charged with exposure to both natural sunlight and any type of artificial light as well. For their entire lifetimes, Citizen Eco-Drive watches will never require battery replacements.

Featuring crystals composed of scratch-resistant mineral glass or nearly scratch-proof sapphire, bands and cases crafted from stainless steel, titanium or ceramics, the materials selected by Citizen watches are just as important to the company as the precision of timekeeping, chronograph detail and radio controlled accuracy as well.

Citizen's latest entry into the marketplace is its Skyhawk A-T radio controlled atomic-timekeeping flight chronograph. This model automatically synchronizes with atomic clocks around the world, giving the wearer the time in not only his or her time zone, but the time in all world time zones as well.

Citizen watches for women have no shortage of styles for ladies as well. Whether it's a bezel encrusted with diamonds or a colored mother-of-pearl dial, Citizen women's watches give the wearer a specific sense of luxurious style. And style is not sacrificed for being ecologically unfriendly either, especially in the Citizen watches for ladies.

Citizen dive watches also feature the Eco-drive technology for those wearers who desire a timepiece for aquatic usage.
