So you want to know about Solar Energy - maybe you are wanting to use your own or you might just be curious. (Heck -you might be doing a paper for school). Usually ,when poeple think about solar energy, they know that its about using sunlight and turning into energy/electricity for our homes.

The thing about solar energy is, there is more than 1 way to use it. And there are many things it is used for. Of course the foundation of solar energy is taking 1 form of energy and converting it into a form of usable energy.

A few things we use Solar Energy  for:

1. Power For Homes
2. Heating For Swimming Pools
3. Heating Buildings

And solar energy use requires a different form energy conversion.

Like, for our homes and appliances.This usually will require the standard solar panels and solar converters.

But for something, like heating a swimming pool, the actual device used for converting solar energy into heat, will be a bit different like using a thermal collector. thermal = heat.

I think that a good way to describe how the Solar Energy is converted into electricity would be to describe the exact way solar panels work scientifically.

Sunlight Is Converted Into Electricity With Solar Panels

Solar panels are actually photovoltaic -this means that when sunlight hits them, the sunligh is trapped by the materials. When this happens, the electrons are knocked loose from the atoms -and this is called "Photovoltaic Effect.

After this, they flow through the ,material and turn into electricity.

And this particular electricity is called, DC electricity. It will go through the converter and be transformed into the AC electricity.And that is what is needed to run appliances in our house.

Once the AC electricity leaves the converter box - it then travels to our house and thats it.

Solar Energy Is Easy

Its all quite simple when you see exactly how it works. Because of the Photovoltaic material, the sunlight is almost instantly converted into electricity.And I think that is a huge reason why Solar Energy has been able to grow so fast throughout the last 20 years.
