I've transferred thousands and thousands of files and hundreds of Gbs worth of data and I honestly have to go double check it's actually transferring the files because with normal room noise, this drive is indiscernible.

If it is not connected to a computer, or if the computer is off or in standby, the hard disk draws 0 watts. When the computer is on, but not accessing the disk, it draws 4 watts. When actively transferring files, it draws 6-7 watts. This explains why the case is always cool. It automatically spins down the hard disk when inactive for a time. This does cause a delay when you access it, but it is only a few seconds.
