Eco-Friendly Solar Fountains For Your Garden
Solar fountains are fast gaining popularity as a means to beautify gardens. They come with the added benefit running on solar energy that is free and have no wires.
Fountains come in a variety of shapes and sizes along with their solar panels. You can have standalone pedestal fountains or floating fountains. Some unique fountains are in the form of floating lilies, birdbaths or lanterns. Choose a fountain depending on the landscape of your garden. If there are several trees in the garden, it makes sense to have a fountain with a mobile solar panel. In case there is ample sunlight in the garden, a fountain with a fixed solar panel is good enough.
Advantages Of A Solar Fountain
Solar fountains need no electricity, so you save on electricity costs without compromising on aesthetics. They are not very expensive and require very little maintenance. You just need to clean the pump periodically and add water to it. They are safe around children and pets as there is no possibility of them getting electric shocks. It is very simple to install a solar fountain and you can do it yourself.
Maintaining the fountain
Solar fountains require very little maintenance and have low running costs as they have no moving parts and are environment –friendly. Firstly, place the fountain in an area where it receives direct sunlight, for optimum results. Some fountains come with inbuilt solar panels, while others have separate solar panels. In either case, the solar panel must receive direct sunlight. Since the fountain needs no electrical power, you may place it away from an electric source anywhere in the garden.
If you want the fountain to run at night, you must attach a battery that stores solar energy. Always run the water pump at full capacity for best results. You can also dismantle the fountain in the winter months and pack it or simply cover the pump to protect it from snow and rain. Keep in mind that the water for the pump is free flowing and not freezing as this can damage the pump. Secondly, attach extra solar panels if you need a powerful flow of water from the fountain. Keep in mind that the force of water through the day may vary depending on the amount of sunlight available.
Working of a fountain
The fountain has a solar pump connected to a network of photovoltaic cells on the solar panel or panels. The cells are made of very fine silicon interconnected together in a grid-like manner. These solar panels absorb solar energy and convert it into electricity that runs the solar pump. However they store energy enough only for daylight operation as the solar pumps consume a large amount of energy. The panels come with fifteen feet of wire, so you can install the fountain or move it around in the garden wherever there is optimum sunlight.
Thus, solar fountains provide a soothing ambience to your garden, beautifying your outdoors without burning a hole in your pocket.
