In the current credit crunch and recession, most people simply cannot afford to buy a brand new car and are forced to either keep their existing car or have to buy a good, low mileage pre-owned car. There is nothing wrong with keeping your existing car or buying a pre-owned car but you may find the need to spruce or spice up a pre-owned car a little bit to give it a fresh look. Fortunately, there are quite a few things that you can do to improve the appearance of your pre-owned car without having to spend too much money.

The first thing you should do with your pre-owned car is attend to any repairs that it may require, such as body repairs, paint repairs, bumper repairs, dent removal, windshield repairs, wheel rim repairs, etc. You may also need to attend to interior repairs such as upholstery and carpet repairs, dash repair, headliners, interior panel repairs, cigarette burn repairs, etc. Once all your repairs have been done, your car should be in the same structural condition on the inside and outside as it was when brand new.

Once all your repairs are done you should have your car professionally auto detailed to bring out the shine inside and outside of your car, and to give the paint a good refreshing. Professional auto detailers will first clean the outside of your car to remove any dirt and grime from the body, windows and wheels. They will then use auto detailing clay bars to remove residue and impurities from the paint work that cannot be removed by soap and water. After the claying, the auto detailers will wax the body work to seal and protect the paint from any further damage. The auto detailers will also clean the inside of the car by giving the interior a thorough vacuuming and cleaning and polishing all interior surface areas before applying a sent to the interior. When completed, the auto detailers should have restored your car close to its show room condition.

All that is left is to see to the condition of your car's headlights, which may require some restoration if they are cloudy or discolored due to oxidation. Not only do poor headlights detract from a car's appearance, but it poses a safety risk as it can reduce your night vision by as much as 90%! For this reason, headlight restoration should not be delayed, especially as it can be completed quite quickly and without great cost.

If you want to go that little bit further and spice your car up some more, without spending too much money, you could have your windows tinted. This is will not only improve the look of your car but will reduce solar heat penetration and will keep your car cooler during the summer month, reducing your need for air conditioning and provide you with considerable savings on gas in the long run.
