Consider this concept a minute. Our cities as we know it are having financial problems, people are worried about Global warming. Because of the financial crunch, there are some cities, even in the U.S. that are now asking people to pay a portion of the cities lighting bill. Or, lights are being turned out during the late night hours in some cities. It's also good to note, cities are turning down their night light usage to burn less energy. So, why hasn't anyone working to solve these problems suggested using Solar Lights?

The one thing we all know is that there is a push toward reducing city power consumption. What better way than including Solar Energy into the mix, by putting up solar lighting on city streets. For one thing, it takes a lot of lights to keep city streets illuminated. In turn, it costs a lot to keep the cities around the world lit. With Solar lighting, cities could reduce their dependencies on electrical lighting and go green. Further, Solar Energy is a cheaper, cleaner energy source. Essentially city officials would tackle two problems with one solution, three if you count re-using the monies saved and opening new posts to help with the energy initiatives.

Solar Lights, a lighting city street is a practical option to the problems faced by city officials struggling to reduce energy and pollution. Citizens could rest assured that they are breathing cleaner air, thanks in large to the new solar lighting.

The power-source for these solar lights could be built in one central location, and all the lamps fed from said location. There is more than enough public land available for a solar station to be built to power the units. Even if the power were built and supplied by the energy company or a privately held entity it would still reduce the price of powering our cities. Most importantly, nothing would need to be changed about the current lighting system, but to re-route the current light posts to the new power sources. In essence, all power-lines are interconnected on streets, and would only need to be re-directed so the power flows from the solar generators into the posts, powering our light.
