A Review of Casio Protrek Tough Solar PRG-500Y-1D PRG-500Y Men's Watch

PRG-500Y-1D is a another fantastic Tough Solar watch from Casio. This Casio Protrek watch comes with new triple sensor analog-digital timepieces with direct altitude/barometric pressure and temperature sensors. Depending on the sensor mode you enter, the second hand indicates direction, altitude differential, or barometric pressure tendency in easy-to-read analog format. The digital display shows data as values.  This means these models provide the best of both digital and analog formats. The Altitude Mode performs continuous measurements at 5-second intervals for the first three minute. After that, measurements continue to the performed in accordance with either of two available setup- every five seconds for one hour or every two minutes for 10 hours.

The built in sensors of this Casio Protrek Tough Solar Men's watch measure direction, barometric pressure, temperature and altitude. Measurement results are indicated by second hand of the watch and on the digital display. Such features makes this watch useful when hiking, mountain climbing or when engaging in other such outdoor activities. The face of the watch is a solar cell that generates power from light. The generated power charges a built-in rechargeable battery, which powers watch operations. The watch charges whenever it is exposed to light.  The compass mode uses the watch's direction sensor to detect magnetic north.

This watch also features a built-in magnetic bearing sensor that detects terrestrial magnetism. This means that north indicated by this watch is magnetic north, which is somewhat different from true polar north. This watch uses a pressure sensor to measure air pressure and a temperature sensor to measure temperature. This watch displays altitude values based on air pressure readings taken by built-in pressure sensor. This watch maintains two types of altitude data in its memory – manual save records and auto save values. This watch has five independent daily alarm. The face of this watch is illuminated for easy reading in the dark.
