Electric Cars Poised to Start Saving Consumers

I have always been found of the automotive industry, as a 12 year old boy I could name the make, model, hp and 1/4 mile speed for every vehicle that passed me by.  Now however it is a rarity that I can even tell you the make let alone the model or what it's performance is.  But I can tell you the gas mileage of most every car and well it has been something of content for myself for some years now.  My father and I boast quite often on how we drove a 2 door Geo Metro from New York and New Mexico in 36 hrs for less than $75 in 1996.  The brilliant little 3 cylinder was able to cruise at speeds of 90 mph and boasted 50 mpg.  Unfortunately it was couple with an awkward body that got the attention that was previously reserved for the Pinto's and Gremlin's of the world.  Now unlike anytime before we are now presented with a technology and platform that will prove to transform our driving habits and fortunately save some serious money for the commuter in the long run.  The Electric car is here in all it's glory as part of the vision of the Tesla Motors in the form of the Model S. Now Nissan has jumped in with there errand running Nissan Leaf with a 100 mile rang and boasts cost per mile of around $.03 nearly 1/10 cheaper than a car that gets nearly 30 mpg.  

So whether you are looking for a commuting car our a luxury cruiser with all the ammenities we are now starting to unveil the cost advantages of the technologies.  The seven passenger Tesla Motors Model S if capable of serving the customer for 250,000 miles would prove to be more cost effective than the newest gasoline efficiency Ford Fusion Hybrid with a fuel economy of 40 mpg.  When calculating the increased value of fuel over the next 10 years we see that even the Tesla with a $55,000 sticker price cheaper than the car with a sticker price of $30,000 that gets 40 mpg.  

Most excitingly this allows home owners to not only save in fuel economy and upfront costs but they are now capable of producing their own power for their car through an appropriately sized renewable energy.  This is done to produce electricity cheaper than what the grid is supplying for but also to hedge against increase cost of electricity.  Over the past 30 years energy as whole has average 5-6.5% annual growth in energy costs.  Usually these costs have been greatly upset by activities in and amongst oil reserver for nearly the past 100 years.  The purchase of a renewable energy system for your home is your way to invest in a technology that is not only saving you money but also in effect reduce or dependency on foreign oil.
