Solar garden lighting is a great innovation. Mistake #1: Placing Your Lights in the Shade

Your lights need several hours of direct sunlight every day, preferably around midday when the sun is at its strongest to charge up. Placing them in shady areas will cause your lights not to get a full charge each day.

There are several negative side effects to your lights not fully charging every day. At first your lights will just not burn as bright or stay lit the whole night without a full charge. If this happens once in a while because of a rainy or cloudy day, it's not a problem. However, if you keep your lights in the shade, it will slowly degrade your battery. The battery's aging will accelerate and it will end up holding less and less of a charge every day, so your lights will work less and less hours each night. After a short time you will need to completely replace your lighting, usually a long time ahead of schedule.

Mistake #2: Not Making a Lighting Plan

Another problem that most people run into when they're installing solar garden lighting is that they don't make a plan to install the lights. Instead, since the lights are so easy to install, they simple place them in the ground and forget about them.

If you really want the best performance out of your lights and for your home to look the best, you need to seriously plan out where you want to put your lights before you even step foot inside a store or start shopping online. This will let you know what type of lights that you will be looking at and whether solar lights will work at all. You may still have lighting if you don't plan beforehand, but it won't look nearly as good.

These are two common mistakes many people make when they're installing solar garden lighting for the first time. However, this doesn't have to happen to you. If you always plan out your garden lighting before you start looking at lights and don't place your solar lights in the shade, you'll be well on your way to getting an amazing night landscape in no time.
