Every day we consume power, be it the use of MP3 players, laptops, stereos, huge televisions and home heating and air conditioning systems. We all need and use energy, but most of us have never thought of creating "electricity at home."

Can you Really go "Offgrid"?

Can you build your own electric generator? Is that even possible? Yes. But before the "how" and "why" lets consider talking energy.

Electricity is a form of energy such as heat and light. Natural electrical sources can be found, however difficult, and most produce only very little energy. Take for example the static electricity that makes hair stand on end in an air conditioned room. Fortunately, a basic law on energy is that they can be converted from one form to another. Therefore, our energy supply is only a product of the conversion of any source of energy to electricity. And that is why we can miniaturize the production of electricity.

The most common way to produce electricity is with a solar panel. The solar panels consist of solar cells, or simply put, the light energy into electricity converter. Light rays from the sun activate the photovoltaic cells to generate the tension. The voltage each cell produces is relatively small. For this reason, the cells are either in series or in parallel to generate the desired voltage to be connected. Of course, solar panels have disadvantages. The first is that they are very expensive to purchase. Second, they have a low efficiency compared to other generators. So if you plan to produce electricity with solar panels to your house, prepare your wallet(unless you make your own).

Another method for generating electricity is turning wind into electricity. A wind turbine is used for this method. Basically, a wind turbine is a dynamo (the general term for all motors or generators) connected to a turbine that is rotated by the wind. The turbine collects wind energy, while the alternator converts mechanical force of the wind into electricity. As indicated above, it is a dynamo, a general term for a motor. If a generator converts electrical energy into mechanical energy it is a motor. If it converts mechanical energy into electricity, it is a generator. Compared to solar cells, wind turbines provide a relatively higher yield. However, the turbine must be positioned where the wind is stronger for the generation of better quality.

Solar panels and wind turbines produce power only when there sun and wind, respectively. Storing their energy in a battery is a solution to this problem. Precautions must be duly respected in the use of batteries, especially those with high "mAh" ratings. In the case of a short circuit, they can produce lethal levels of electricity.

Another method is by using a Free Energy Generator. It uses magnets, and magnetic force to induce perpetual motion. It runs by itself, indefinitely without stopping, thus creating completely free electrical energy, which can fully power your home for free. We'll discuss all these methods in more detail in later posts.

There are several viable options for creating your own home electricity. It's only a matter of a little research, a little trial and error, and of course a little patience before we produce practical amounts of electricity. Remember to take safety precautions when using electricity. You do not want to fry your iPod, or even worse - yourself!
