With skyrocketing energy prices, residential solar power systems have been gaining more attention and are growing in popularity with homeowners. As these systems are installed more frequently in neighborhoods across the county in a variety of home types, it is apparent that this trend of eco-friendly energy production will continue. Home heating and electricity bills are taking a serious toll on the average homeowner's bottom line each month. More and more families are opting to save money and do reduce their carbon footprint, by installing complete or partial residential solar power systems in their homes.
Solar power systems are a great solution because installing a system is not an all or nothing endeavor. The homeowner may choose to install a complete solar power system to power their entire home and even in some cases, generate excess energy to sell back to the grid for others to use. But the average family can start small and opt to generate enough power with solar panels to subsidize their existing conforming energy source while saving money on their monthly energy bills. Smaller scale solar panel systems may be used to power outdoor landscape lighting, heat swimming pools and provide energy sources for workshops and outbuildings.
Residential Solar Power Systems are scalable so that you can build enough solar panels to power just a few appliances in your home such as your lights or refrigerator, or expandable to power your entire home including major energy consuming appliances such as heating units and hot water heaters. Systems can either be professionally installed or do-it-yourself kits are also readily available and easy to use. The major benefit of the do-it-yourself solar panel kit, is that you can save thousands of dollars on installation fees, and decrease the time it takes to recognize a return on your investment.
Placement of your solar power system will do best in a minimum of 200 sq. ft, completely unshaded, south facing area and positioned at a 10 to 40 degree tilt angle. The system may be roof or yard mounted. Positioning for east or west directed exposure will result in about a 10 to 30% reduction in output, however an unshaded east or west positioned system is still considered to have higher output than a partially shaded south facing system. Be sure to check your local building codes and obtain any necessary permits from your locality before purchasing and installing your residential solar power system.
Residential Solar Power Systems are going to play a significant role in our energy future; take the opportunity to learn more about it right now.
