You have good environmental reasons to buy a steel water bottle. You have serious and compelling economic reasons to invest in a steel water bottle. You have at least half-a-dozen practical and fashionable arguments to support acquisition of a steel water bottle. But, when it comes right down to the point of purchase and the moment of truth, you should get a steel water bottle just simply because it is cool.
Pre-Cycle and Up-Cycle
Among the ecorati and environmentistos, a sophisticated new vocabulary has come into vogue. Your friends absolutely cannot regard you as current unless you speak "pre-cycle," "free-cycle," "up-cycle," and "e-cycle."
Although you could commit greater crimes against your Mother Earth, "down-cycling" counts at least as a misdemeanor. When you buy a metal bottle, you prove your command of pre-cycling, refusing to buy anything you do not need, and you especially show your mastery of up-cycling, because all of the recycled material in your new steel water bottle has been put to a use better than its original. Your fashionable steel water container speaks volumes on your behalf.
Purge the Plastic!
At least as important as consuming only what you need and investing in up-cycled products, you aggressively must curb your use of disposables. Paper towels, paper napkins, baggies, and especially plastic water bottles represent an attitude and way of life the world has outgrown. Substituting your own purified water for purchase of plastic bottles, you contribute to saving some of the 17 billion barrels of oil soft drink makers and others use to produce and distribute water every year. Those same 17 billion barrels of oil could fuel more than 1.5 million hybrid vehicles. Similarly, remembering to take your metal bottle wherever you go, always and everywhere refusing plastic, you reduce the 86% of all plastic bottles that end-up in the trash instead of going to recycling.
Focus on the "Cool."
You may take the admonition literally. Your new steel bottle keeps your water far colder than the plastic bottle ever could. And just incidentally, stainless steel chills far faster than plastic, so that you save electricity as well as fossil fuels. Outfitted with its own little cozy-preferably crafted from an organic fiber-your steel bottle keeps your refreshing beverage colder far longer than plastic could. You may, of course, take the injunction in its figurative fashion sense, too. Steel bottles come in the whole rainbow of fashion forward colors, and many come emblazoned with logos and slogans you feel proud to represent. At the point of purchase, decide on "all of the above"-buy your steel water bottle for the cool, and use it to save the planet.
