1) Requires a battery bank - Wind energy is not 100 percent reliable. There may be strong wind blowing one minute and then still air the next. To overcome this issue, you have to build a battery bank for backup power.

2) Noise and visual blight - Some residential communities do not allow noisy wind turbines. Some home owners may not appreciate seeing wind generators around their neighborhood.

3) Required strong mounting - To capture strong wind, the support of the wind blades has to be strong and high. How do you make it stable? You have to either building a strong foundation or pull multiple tension wires to keep it steady. The main disadvantage is the additional cost required.

4) Noisy rotors - The rotors of the wind generator are noisy and obstructive when they are spinning. To generate more power, you have to use bigger blades. Have you been in a helicopter? The noise from the blades can affect your hearing.

5) Cost of the power produced varies - You will not be able to get a consistent cost of power generated from wind turbine. Everything depends on the wind. Strong wind will lower your cost whereas no wind will increase your cost. This will make the calculation for your Return On Investment (ROI) harder.

6) Lots of moving parts - Moving parts such as the rotors, bearings, mounting joints etc will wear down and require constant maintenance after some time. Maintenance equals cost.

7) Home wind power is relatively obscure - It is difficult to find a good and reliable residential wind power professional. Those that are in the market tend to charge a higher rate.

Wind obstruction - Any trees, houses, barns, tall building etc will have a direct effect on the efficiency of the wind generator. If you live in the urban area, generating power with a wind turbine system has its challenges.
