Solar power is converted energy from the sun that generates electricity. The electricity generated can be exported into the electricity grid and/or supplement electricity for running home appliances and business operations. The process of conversion requires a solar power system, the main component of which, are photovoltaic cells that make up solar panels. What are Photovoltaic Cells?
Photovoltaic (PV) cells are the core of solar energy conversion technology. They are made up of positive and negative slice of silicone under a thin piece of glass. These solar panels or PV tiles convert sunlight into clean energy that can be used at home and in the workplace in lieu of conventional energy sources, which are generated from non-renewable fossil fuels. Once sunlight strikes the surface of the PV panels, the silicone does its work in trapping negatively charged neutrons under a magnetic field.
The neutrons are then relayed via wires to form an electric current. The reaction results in D/C electricity, which is then converted into alternating current or A/C after passing through an inverter. By then, the energy is ready to be exported into the electricity grid and/or for running appliances, lighting, and office equipment.
Solar Power Applications
Some common applications of solar electricity apart from operating appliances include heating pools or water for showers and baths. It may also be used to fuel your home's central heating system. The grid-interactive solar system, when mounted on the roof of your house, can export electricity to the grid and/or partially supplement your home's energy requirements. Solar energy may also be used to light your garden, fountains, or house number plates. With manufacturers continuously improving Solar Panels, the list of possibilities continue to get longer.
