The Brunton Solaris 52 has some of the best reviews that I have read online for a portable solar panel. I have been interested in the technology for some time now and have watched panels like this get more efficient, lighter in weight and seriously come down in price.
The Brunton Solaris 52 is as close to professional equipment that I have found at a reasonable price. This is not a panel for the casual backpacker that may want to top of an ipod. Although it will work great for that it is not doing the amount of power that this thing has justice.
The flexible portable solar panel folds down into a textbook size pack that weighs about 3lbs. it really is perfect to fit into a backpack or throw in the trunk of your car. The panel's output is a standard 12-volt car charger plug, one of 4 DC input tips or jumper cables for a car battery.
The best way to use this portable solar panel is with a Brunton Solo 15 battery. Yes the battery adds more weight but it is the most efficient way to be able to charge and power your devices when the sun isn't shining or at night.
The Brunton Solaris 52 and Solo 15 combo is great for someone that wants to spend some serious time off the grid but still wants to run their electronics.
When the Solaris 52 came out it was priced in the $1300 range and the Solo 15 at $650. They have come down in price significantly and you can pick up both for under $650.
