The age of looking back is upon us; enter retro watches! Out with the new and in with the old! It seems these days watches dating back from the 80s, 70s, and 60s seem to be all the rage. They represent a certain way of thinking in their design, as if the designers were half influenced by Space Odyssey 2001, and half optimism of a future with flying cars. Flashy dials, and bright colours are evident in some of the more sci-fi models such as the Damas Jump Hour, where as others seem more toned down, sleek and metallic, as a skyscraper of the future might be.

This seemed to be the trend for many Japanese watch designers in the 70s and 80s, such as Casio with their iconic and still hugely popular models, which despite their success still have names akin to bar code numbers! Retro watches seem to have captured a time period from decades ago (no pun intended!) that is distinctive yet subtle on ones appearance. I like to think something that comes close to this is the Inspector Frost or Morse detective series from the UK, what with all the boxy cars and secretaries in outfits my mom would have worn (judging by her old photos and clothes in the attic!).

One would however expect such fashion accessories from yester decade to cost a small fortune, as do similar dated collectables. In some ways they do. This is definitely the case with original old stock pieces, dating back GASP almost 30 years in some cases. These models might cost you between 150 euro and up (way way up!), but will definitely set you apart in a crowd. These unique, almost one of a kind time pieces are also in a sense an investment, containing the skillful quality to keep ticking well on into the future.

These days though good fashion seems to be getting more and more cheaper, as more and more compete. Most of us probably wont even dish that much out for a watch anyways, and if this is your case fear not!

Companies have been popping up left and right to scramble over the hype for retro watches, introducing stylish affordable models targeted to young people. Also many brands such as Seiko and Timex have wisely noticed the trend and are producing discontinued models due to popular demand.
