Water fuel cells have become wildly popular only just in the last 6 months to a year, despite the technology being around for many years prior. The current situation with the price of oil and hence the cost of the commuter at the pump, has driven many people to seek answers and other means for running their car without paying through their teeth.

It seems that this technology really could not have come out into public at a more crucial time, and taking a guess, its no coincidence at all. Many years of suppression from those in a position of power, have kept this technology under the hood, pardon the pun. Now that this technology is becoming known about to the masses we will see its rapid growth and likely its integration into many areas of our lives.

The basic premis of how the water or hydrogen fuel cell works is that it passes an electric current through water, a process known as electrolysis, this electrical charge splits the molecules within water, normally the two hydrogen atoms are bound to the single oxygen atom, with the seperation process, the hydrogen atoms get split off from the oxygen, and whats left over is two seperate hydrogen atoms and a single oxygen atom.

The gas that is left over is known as HHO or Brown's gas, and is highly flammable, thus its use as a renewable energy source. Although many people know about this technology, many have believed false claims that it does not work. Clearly with all the large automotive companies using hydrogen technology in all their most recent projects, the technology not only does work, but it is seen as the up and coming break through in this time of high gas prices and decreasing amounts of peak oil.

In regards to the peak oil situation, we are now in fact believed to have gone through over 50% of the worlds main known oil stores. If you consider that our society has achieved this mainly within the last one hundred years from time of the birth of the industrial revolution in the early 1900's, then its plain to see that with the population difference and expansion rate increasing ten fold, that our society is in desperate means of alternative energy sources.

The use of hydrogen as a fuel, is considered one of the most cost effective sources of renewable energy that we currently have the technology to use. There are many ways in which we can use this technology in replacement of our existing oil burning structures. With the situation as it is now, we need to push our government to really take action and we need to start implementing this technology into our lives as fast as we can.

One such way in which we can implement this technology in our own lives quickly and relatively cheaply, is to convert our existing cars into hydrogen burning hybrids. No longer is the only option to buy a brand new hybrid car, we now have cheap means available to convert our engines to run on water. For a small price a hydrogen fuel cell kit can be purchased and installed, and for an even smaller price you can invest in a DIY guide and install a hydrogen car kit yourself, or even have your local mechanic do it for you.

This is a very cost effective way of using this technology in your own life as soon as possible, and if lots of people begin to do this, it will have a dramatic effect on our consumption of oil, and could greatly work to cut down the rate at which we are burning this valuable and limited fossil fuel. As a society we have an obligation to think about our resources on this planet in a responsible manner, and that means utilizing more eco friendly and renewable energy sources as we can.

It is vitally important that we all remember our power and the effect of our actions on the community and world at large around us, I feel that if enough people start to implement this technology, it could actually rid our need for oil use all together within the next 10 to 15 years.
