If you have been looking for a power inverter you will have seen that inverters come in two main types: modified wave power inverters and pure sine wave power inverters. Other than their price the difference may not at first be hugely apparent but which one you choose can be the difference between an appliance working or not so it is worth making sure you get the right type of inverter for your needs.

Modified wave power inverters create an AC power output that is a close enough replication which is fine for most simple appliances to run from, so if you just want to run a few basic household appliances like lights, fans or cheap electrical equipment then a modified sine wave inverter will more than likely be perfect for the job. Modified wave inverters are available because it is a lot cheaper to design and make an inverter that produces this close enough choppy AC wave and a lot of appliances will run without a problem from them so it has made them very common.

As with a lot of things you generally get what you pay for, and power inverters are no exception. A pure sine wave inverter is a far more complex piece of equipment as it products a near perfect AC wave power output that is very similar to what you would get from your household power point, and so as you can expect they are more expensive to make and therefore buy. They are however the better choice if you are going to be using your inverter a lot or you want to power complicated, sensitive or medical electrical equipment as these appliances either wont run from the poor quality power output of a modified wave inverter or if they do they may not function correctly or even be damaged!

A good quality pure sine wave power inverter is always worth the extra cost if you are going to be powering expensive or sensitive electrical equipment as the higher quality power source of the pure sine wave inverter will not reduce the life of the unit's power supply which may be the case if it had to filter out the more choppy modified AC wave.

That being the case budget permitting a pure sine wave inverter is always the better option as not only will it be better built and of higher quality components but it also gives you a far higher quality power source to power your equipment from. On top of that you wont find yourself running into any problems with certain appliances not working correctly or at all.
