Solar power produces no know emissions or by products that can contribute to global warming or climate change. In fact solar power is so clean that it can be used practically anywhere with little concern.

Dependability is critical for any alternative energy system since many people who depend on them are in remote areas and depend n them for survival. Solar power passes this test easily. Solar power systems generally will last quite a lengthy amount of time. They are very rugged and durable systems that have come along way form the fragile systems of the 70's. In fact many owners of these systems can recoup their investment in as little as 5-7 years and enjoy the extra savings for the next 20 years before the system needs to be replaced.

The amount needed to keep one of these systems running and maintained is actually quite low since very few parts make up the system. And many of the parts can go 15 years or more with out the need to be replaced or repaired. The main component of the system the solar panel generally maintain 70-80% of their efficiency for more then 20 years.

Although they sound great these sun power systems do have some drawback to them as well. The main negative is the required cash outlay required to obtain the system. Many people simply do not have the required $10,000-$20,000 required to purchase and install a system. For these people simply sticking with the power company may be the best financial move.

On cloudy days the power produced from the system will be much lower, there are ways around it by using a battery back up system or staying connected to the power company and using their power. But these options add additional expenses that some may perceive as negative.

When you objectively look at the pros and cons of solar power you can easily see that the good out weighs the bad.
